Chairman Message

Welcome to the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Jahangirnagar University. The objective of the department is to provide specialized knowledge in a major field of biotechnology, and the technical skills to enable them to work with interdisciplinary teams of biotechnologists in academic, corporate, and government research settings. The Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering offers graduate programs (4 years B.Sc. and 1 year M.Sc.) and postgraduate programs (MPhil, PhD) in Biotechnology. These programs are designed to provide fundamental training in basic scientific principles as well as in specific concepts, techniques, and applications used in biotechnology. To support this aim, the graduate program faculty includes biologists, chemists, physicists, mathematicians, and engineers who serve as dissertation advisors. Currently, over 196 students are enrolled in these programs, which will prepare them for working in the health and environmental protection sectors, in research laboratories, and in those areas of industries that implement biotechnology.
